Pimples, Periods and Inner Peace ....

Welcome to June and the first of my 4 part series .... Mind your Style (Styling from the inside out).

What do women really want … simple – balanced hormones PERIOD. (see what I did there). Imagine what it would be like to feel consistently the same week after week – screw that hour to hour. Women are the stronger sex, it takes super powers to get through life with a constant barrage of hormonal instability and still somehow be kind, loving and mostly sane. And yes, I am very much aware that the world has far greater issues than hormonal imbalance and pimples. But seriously dude, what’s up with this teenage nightmare skin? It’s seriously annoying my brown girl skin – leaving me with loads of brown hyper pigmented spots – which I am embracing but not exactly pulling off the ‘Megan Markle freckle magic’ I would have hoped for. I seriously could have forecasted the need to embrace my wrinkles at this stage, but the teenager is still very much alive in me and on me. Our minds and bodies are constantly under attack but somehow thank God the soul remains intact. So, listen, its winter and the sunshine is lacking and well it’s okay to lose your sh*t sometimes but the point is really what happens after that.

Finding peace with yourself is probably one of life’s greatest pursuits. We are constantly at war with ourselves and it’s time to STOP. I say this to myself digging deep and trying to keep it together as my super assertive nearly 3-year-old manipulates the very core of my existence … “Breathe” and thank God for playschool. I love the child no doubt but boy oh boy he’s probably my toughest challenge so far. But listen he’s my kid and he isn’t going anywhere so I best get used to it. And, it’s really simple, GOD makes good things and so you too are good and even my 3 year old at the worst of times is good. Which brings me to this tale I read in a newsletter recently: An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life. “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy.

“It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.” He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.” The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?” The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.” It’s really time to just be YOU, forget everybody else – point is to stop comparing yourself to others. You are unique – embrace that, celebrate who you are. I wish there were more systems in place to celebrate our differences instead of constantly feeding us with the desire to meet the status quo. And that includes my little guy. It’s really up to me to embrace his strong will and assertiveness and channel it for good – and pray that his skills of manipulation can be creatively crafted into leadership. So yes, the hormonal imbalance, pimples and the pursuit of inner peace together with life’s unforcasted storms have left me somewhat weather beaten. But, I am gonna feed all that’s good in me, find my own form of peace and not wait for it to miraculously fall on my lap and live a life that I love. And on that point, I promise to blog more and share my life’s journey with you. And it’s gonna be a stylish journey because that’s just who I am – at my best. And, so here are some of my best moments captured– my good angles are soaking up the sunshine and blessing!

Feed the good side in you, be kind to those around you and our planet
