And then just like that out of nowhere a single grey hair straight down my signature middle path reared its lifeless head.  Trust me I have been excitedly anticipating my debut grey hair for years now but not the ‘holy crap, I am old!’ realisation that followed shortly after.  I sensed my fate to be that of a somewhat graceful experienced tinker fairy.  But here I am in this Covid-19 weird world pause and boom I am old.  Yip PMS, pimples, wrinkles and grey hair say...

It’s been a while, my wild child.  I guess I was searching for something that was there all the time– it happens with physical items; my phone in my pocket is a classic example so why wouldn’t that happen with the intangible?  So, here’s some of the story so far: people keep saying to me that I am an influencer, but for some reason, this just does not bode well with me.  Ps. There’s only one way to my heart – tell me that I am clever, and we will probably be friends...

Here goes  my #True Story about, still pinching myself many months later trip, to Paris.

I simply just needed to go get some of the fresh Irish air into my lungs after being away for exactly four years – somehow that green grass has the ability to ground me – that immigrant heritage in my blood is ever so strong! But tickets via Paris were cheaper and the kids where stoked anout the idea of Disneyland, so that was a no brainer.  Plus, mama is now all Laaniraani...

 Hello my people,

So, mama is only the second best fashion blog in South Africa - thanks to each and everyone of you who voted!  Totally zero to hero moment I dare say.  Considering we only started this journey just over a year ago... onwards and upwards.  Let's keep blogging and see where this journey takes us.

Thank you friends of the Laani

Geez, what am I on about right now seriously calling myself organic. So, yes you have heard of organic food or perhaps if you have been involved with corporate jargon you might have come across the term ‘organic growth’ in terms of business expansion?  Here goes my not so Wikipedia version:

Organic Growth:  It’s pretty much internal business growth – so no mergers, acquisitions or external investment.  It’s using what you already have to grow your capabilities.

Right,  I have been rather rebellious with the blog over the last month or two – sorta just ignored penning down my thoughts because I just wanted to let my mind wander – and, oh, does my mind wander.  The most exercise I do is the constant blitz of ideas that run through my mind.  See, I did it again!  Back on track, over the last two months I just wanted to breathe and feel – good, bad and a little lost too.  For me, the unknown is really where the magic lies so w...

Welcome to June and the first of my 4 part series .... Mind your Style (Styling from the inside out).

What do women really want … simple – balanced hormones PERIOD. (see what I did there).  Imagine what it would be like to feel consistently the same week after week – screw that hour to hour.  Women are the stronger sex, it takes super powers to get through life with a constant barrage of hormonal instability and still somehow be kind, loving and mostly sane.

So, when it comes to fashion I pretty much have always had a sense of who I am and what I like.   I sorta always just accepted my eccentricity, my innate desire for vibrancy and the escape that fantasy provides. My eclectic mix of styles, periods, colour and texture follow no real rules just instinct.

Maybe I was just born with this confidence, maybe it exists within most children and I just haven’t evolved into your typical ‘adult’ sense of style or maybe it wa...

It’s super late; my 7-year old’s snuggled up in my bed, the baby monitor is on and the annoying sleep-inducing music app. is blaring in the background. Mr Big is working the night shift again and I can’t fall off to sleep.

This year has been just weird so far; I’ve been sick for all of January, in fact so sick that I decided to call it quits on breastfeeding my little guy after 2.5 years because my body was feeling the toll.  To make matters worse my heart is sore...

So, it’s that time of the year where people go manic … last minute shop frenzies, family feuding, mosquito mania if you’re in the southern hemisphere, re-wrapping of last years unwanted Christmas gifts, credit card woes and a general sense of over-indulgence.  So, I am here to tell you chill out –

Go vintage shop browsing, haggle at a flea market or well repurpose something old, go make something.  There are loads of bygone treasures out there waiting to be loved.  I...

I am so old school sometimes I surprise myself...I hand wrote this blog!  Yes, plain old paper and a “Bic” pen straight from my heart to yours. I once read somewhere that there is a perfect decade out there for everyone, one that defines you from a style point of view.  One that just feels like deja vu.   And I think I just found mine….and I couldn’t be happier.

I am indeed an old soul so hell yes I am a 70’s girl for sure.  I see the world...

In fashion, just like in life everything is certainly not black & white and I hope to show you, that it’s really in the grey where all the fun lies.  So, I 'm a South African Indian Irish girl – Born in South Africa of Indian descent and have lived in Ireland for over 6 years and fell head over heels in love with this beautiful land.  I guess my bio certainly puts me the grey, right?  Never quite fitting in anywhere I have opted to make everything my very own.
